The New York Times today analyzes Senator Hillary Clinton’s health care plan and offers a chart highlighting the similarities and differences between this plan and that of Obama and Edwards.
The report also advises of the current thinking among democratic voters:
A
CBS News poll released Monday night suggests that Mrs. Clinton has already
turned the health care issue from a liability to an asset, at least among
Democratic primary voters: 61 percent said they had confidence in her ability
to make the right decisions on health care, compared with 42 percent who felt
that way about Mr. Obama, and 39 percent about Mr. Edwards. The survey also
found that few voters held her responsible for the failure to pass universal
health insurance during her husband’s presidency.
Recapping: Percentage of likely democratic
voters who believe the candidate is best able to make the right decisions (read
“judgment”) on health care:
Obama………………….42%
Edwards………………..39%
And New York Times
columnist David brooks, who has never been a fan of Hillary Clinton, said this:
Hillary Clinton’s health care plan is a huge step forward from 1993. It’s better than the G.O.P. candidates’ plans (which don’t exist).
TELL OBAMA, AGAIN, IT'S OVER

Hillary's health care plan is nothing more than rhetorical exercise that evades the real issue which is: MONEY. Health care providers don't want change, The system works this way. They get to charge anything they want for equipment, prescription drugs, services, et al and the government gets to write the checks. Everthing else is just BS.

May be true. We here at ThinLine do not take a position on the efficacy of any plan, only that public opinion seems to favor Clinton over Obama on this issue.

I appreciate the fact that you are objective and God knows we need that especially at this time in our history. Just finished my take on Clinton's proposal. Let me know what you think.

Hello peacenow. Your comments about health care in general are thoughtful, insightful, informed and spot on. The profit motive is fatal. You suggested nationalizing the prescription drug industry. Although you have not detailed your plan, my sense is that you support a single payer national health care system. Yes? Which candidate, or sitting mayor or governor, if any, on either side of the aisle has presented the best plan in your opinion?[THUMBDOWN][THUMBDOWN]

All the major candidates have evaded the truth when it comes to health care and that is it's cost. Until I hear a candidate say that he/she is going to take the profit motive out of health care (which I doubt I will hear) they will all come up with "just another plan" that does not get to the root cause of the problem. For example, a visit to a doctors office should cost no more than $50 for a 15 minute visit. At that rate, the doctor is making $200 gross per hour (not bad). Another example. Why should an MRI cost up to $2,500 or a CAT/Scan up to $2,000 for a 10 minute procedure. Who's paying the difference? If you have insurance, they pay part of it and the rest is passed on to medicare etc. What really bothers me is the cost for prescription drugs. One Casodex pill for prostate cancer is about $30. Who's paying for that if you can't, you guessed it, the government. And who profits from it? The drug companies and the shareholders?????
